Introduction
Musculoskeletal pain, particularly in athletes, is often managed through physical therapy and orthopedic interventions. However, emerging research suggests that dental occlusion may influence posture and muscle coordination.
Case Report
A long-distance runner with persistent lower back and hip pain underwent occlusal adjustment through dental treatment. Shortly after the intervention, the patient reported improved posture, reduced pain, and enhanced running performance.
Discussion
The improvements observed in this case suggest that dental alignment may play a role in musculoskeletal balance. The trigeminal nerve’s interaction with the postural system could be a key factor.
Conclusion
This case highlights the potential benefits of dental treatment in managing musculoskeletal issues in athletes. Further research is needed to establish the mechanisms underlying this connection.
